Province wide strike planned for Feb.21

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario, which represents elementary teachers within our board, and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, which represents secondary teachers and professional student service personnel within our board, gave notice that their members will be participating in a one-day, province-wide strike next week on Friday, February 21 if no progress is made at the central bargaining table.

Discussions at the provincial bargaining table have not progressed and the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario, which represents elementary teachers within our board, will be continuing with one-day rotating strikes as well a one-day, province-wide strike next week. The Upper Canada District School Board WILL BE impacted by these strikes on Monday, Feb. 10 and Tuesday, Feb. 11 if there is no progress made at the central bargaining table.

ETFO Strike Planned for Tomorrow + February Dates
01/28/2020
Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), which represents elementary teachers within our board will be holding a one-day strike tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 29. Additionally, the UCDSB will be impacted by a rotating ETFO strike on Wednesday, Feb. 5 and a province-wide ETFO strike on Thursday, Feb.6 if an agreement is not reached at the central bargaining table. This means, there will be no classes or transportation for any of our Kindergarten to Grade 8 students on February 5 or February 6.

Public Health Information - Coronavirus

Ontario Health officials have identified two cases (one confirmed, one presumptive) of Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in Toronto. Health officials currently maintain that the risk of contracting the virus remains low. The UCDSB is following the situation carefully and working with public health officials to determine if additional precautions are necessary.

Labour Relations Update
No classes for Kindergarten to Grade 8 students on January 29
01/24/2020
The UCDSB will be impacted by the rotating one-day strikes taking place next week on Wednesday, Jan. 29. There will be no classes or transportation for any of our Kindergarten to Grade 8 students, this includes Grade 7 and Grade 8 students that attend a secondary school or specialized programs (e.g. ABLE).

OSSTF and ETFO Labour Relations Update - Jan.10

UCDSB will be impacted by OSSTF one-day strikes planned for Jan. 15. There will be no classes for Gr. 9-12 students on that day. Classes for K-8 WILL proceed as usual, even if Gr.7 & Gr. 8 students are in a high school. ETFO is withdrawing additional services in elementary schools starting Jan. 13. Wendy MacPherson, former UCDSB Trustee, died on Friday, Dec. 13, 2019. She was well known in her community of Alexandria, Ont. where she was a former municipal counsellor before serving as a Trustee with the Upper Canada District School Board from 2014 – 2018. In 2014, Ms. MacPherson was the elected Trustee for Ward 9, a constituency comprised of North Glengarry, South Glengarry, North Stormont, South Stormont.
