June 22 Update

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we conclude the 2019-2020 school year at the end of this week, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for working in partnership with our teaching staff and school principals during this unusual time in our history.  We have sincerely appreciated how you have committed to helping your child stay engaged in their learning.

I also want to congratulate all our graduates of the Upper Canada District School Board. The Graduating Class of 2020 has shown dedication and perseverance and they should be proud of everything they have accomplished. I know schools are having special celebrations now for them, but we look forward to seeing all of our graduates again next spring so they can have their full moment to walk across the stage and celebrate what they have achieved with their peers.

Final Report Cards
The end of the school year is also marked with Term 2 report cards for elementary students and Semester 2 report cards for secondary students. These report cards are based on student learning from the beginning of the Term/Semester to March 13, and on work that has been completed over the school closure period if it is to the student’s benefit. More information on assessment and evaluation can be found

Final report cards will be mailed to students between June 25 and July 3.  Please ensure your school has accurate student mailing information on file if your child has moved since the start of the school year.

School Reopening Plans
On Friday, we received guidelines from the Ministry of Education regarding how school districts are to prepare for reopening of schools in the fall. In case you missed the update,
you can read it here. Our school district has already launched efforts to develop some preliminary plans, which we highlighted in a staff presentation to the UCDSB Board of Trustees last week. We will continue to communicate with parents over the summer as these plans are finalized, so that all families know what to expect about how we will be approaching back-to-school in September.

Here is our last round of activity menus for the school year. We hope that you’ve found these materials helpful. There are also additional resources on our Learn at Home webpage. Please be sure to contact your child’s teacher or school principal should you need any support with distance learning.

We will continue to update our website and social media (@UCDSB on Twitter and Facebook, @uppercanadadsb on Instagram) with information throughout the summer, so we welcome your interests in following us in July and August.

After these many months of social uncertainty relating to the pandemic, we are hoping that you and your family find calm and periods of rest over the summer. We continue to wish you and all of those in your household good health and to keep safe.

Yours truly,

Stephen Sliwa
Director of Education
Upper Canada District School Board
