COVID 19 Updates Graphic June 1

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We appreciate all the work that you as parents and guardians are doing at home to keep your children engaged in their learning and especially offering them support and encouragement during a unique and uncertain time in our history. This has not been an easy time for any of us. We want everyone to know that there are resources available if you, your child and/or your family are feeling overwhelmed or need to access community resources. See our Mental Health and Wellness Virtual Library and local contact information within your community.

Ministry of Education Consultation on Reopening Schools
The Ministry of Education has released the "Framework for Continued Learning", a discussion paper on the provincial strategy regarding distance learning and preliminary thinking surrounding the reopening of schools. It provides some insights about the tentative plans, with the Minister indicating that more specific guidance will be shared near the end of June 2020. You can provide written feedback via email to If you respond, be sure to: include your name and the name of your organization; use "Ontario's Plan to Reopen Schools" in the subject line; and attach your submission as a PDF or Word document.

Parent/Guardian Survey Responses

We want to thank all our parents that took the time to complete our survey on distance learning and communication. Your insights were valued and will help us as we move through this phase of learning. You can view the findings here.

We have initiated a student survey for students in Grades 7-12 as well. Please be sure to have your child check their UCDSB email address as the survey can only be filled out by students using their UCDSB account.

Collection of Personal Items, Refunds, Reports
As mentioned last week, we know that access to schools to collect personal belongings is top of mind for our families and students. We are working with public health on a plan that will allow families access to schools to collect these items. We expect to have more information for families regarding this by June 10 or before.

School Transitions and Kindergarten Information Sessions

Our early learning teams are excited to meet our new parents and students. Although that won't be in person for some time, schools will be hosting virtual info sessions rather than open houses “ some as early as this week.
Please visit our website for dates, contact your school or see their Facebook page.

Similar activities will be happening at the secondary level and more information will be shared once we have a better idea how these sessions will be held.

Updates K-8 Resources & Printed Materials
Our newest weekly activity menus are now on our Learn at Home webpage. Please be sure to contact your teacher or school principal should you need any support with distance learning.

If access to the internet or a device is a barrier for your child to participate in distance learning, printed materials can be mailed to you. This applies to our elementary and secondary students. Please contact your school principal or teacher directly.

Please continue to refer to our website for information pertaining to school operations and learn at home resources.

With my continued best wishes to you and your family to stay well and to keep safe!
