Power of Ideas Tour at Almonte DHS

Upper Canada District School Board’s Almonte District High School (ADHS) was one of 15 schools chosen this year for the Power of Ideas Tour that visited the school on November 21 and November 22.

The Power of Ideas Exhibition is an engaging and immersive experience created by Perimeter Institute that travels to chosen schools across Ontario. The tour started as a Canada 150 initiative and it is about inspiring youth to believe they can be leaders in innovation through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It gives high school students and their families a fun, hands-on approach to engaging with the process of science.

On the first day of the tour at the school, ADHS students had the chance to engage in experiments focusing on topics such as colliding particles, black holes, cosmic speed limits and gravity. They were free to jump from station to station and had professionals there to explain each topic. In the evening, the public was invited to attend.

The high school also invited local schools to participate in this experience on November 22. Grade 5 and 6 students from Packenham Public School, R. Tait Mckenzie Public School, Naismith Memorial Public School and Holy Name of Mary Catholic School ventured out to experience the Power of Ideas set up.

“This was a unique opportunity for our students and community,” said  ADHS Principal Nancy Holman. “We are grateful for the opportunity to host this event.”
