November 16, 2018 (Cornwall, ON)Central Public School will spread some Christmas spirit Saturday, November 17 as it enters its first float in the Cornwall Santa Claus Parade.

The theme of this year’s annual parade is Christmas Movies. The Central Public School float is entitled Merry Grinchmas from Central Public School and will feature a four-foot-high Grinch, Christmas tree, chimney with stockings, and truffula trees (like those seen in the iconic Dr. Seuss books) growing from every corner.

Learning resource teachers Erin Richardson and Hannah Lunan are leading the project. Preparations have been underway for three weeks and Lunan says every class in the school has been involved. Students have wrapped Christmas gifts, tested tree lights, and made giant candies, lollipops, and wreathes for the float.

“It’s a lot of work, but it really pays off," said Lunan. "The kids are excited. They’ve been talking about it in the hallways, and encouraging people to come out, watch the parade, and cheer.”

About 50 students will represent Central at the parade, with primary students riding the float and junior students walking beside it and handing out candy canes.

The parade launches from St. Lawrence Secondary School at 5 p.m. and will proceed west down Second Street East.
