Preparing for Post-Secondary

The Upper Canada District School Board is committed to preparing all students for a successful life. Whether your future plan involves an apprenticeship, College,University or the workplace, the UCDSB wants to help you succeed. Here are some resources to consider when preparing for post-secondary:

Research your Options

In order to become better informed about your post-secondary choices, it's never too early to start researching. Visit your school's Guidance Office to discuss your options and go for campus visits. If you are having trouble choosing a program or school, consider attending a post-secondary fair:

Seek Financial Support

Visit the Employment Ontario training website to learn more about loans for tools, grants, apprenticeship completion bonus, and other financial supports.

The Ontario Student Assistance Plan (OSAP) is funded by the Ontario and Federal government for post-secondary students who maintain at least a 60% course load. The OSAP Aid Estimator feature can be used as a guide to a possible assessment.

Grade 12 students can apply online in the spring for the 30% Off Ontario Tuition Grant. The Ontario Tuition Grant is available for full-time undergraduate university and college students whose parents’ gross income is less than $160,000. Automatic consideration is given to students who have applied for OSAP.

Apply for Scholarships

A scholarship is an award of financial aid for a student to further their education. Scholarships are awarded based upon various criteria, which usually reflect the values and purposes of the donor or founder of the award. They are not always based on marks or for students going to university. Scholarships are available from several institutions:

  • Graduation awards from Secondary School;
  • Searchable Scholarship Databases; and
  • By searching individual University or College websites.
