Labour Relations Update

We want to take this opportunity to update you on further developments relating to labour action taking place within the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB).

Yesterday, the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), the union that represents elementary teachers within our board, gave notice that their members will be moving into phase 6 of their work-to-rule campaign (a partial withdrawal of services) on Wednesday, February 26 and continue until Friday, March 6 if progress is not made at the provincial bargaining table.

During phase 6 of the work-to-rule campaign, elementary teachers in public schools across Ontario, including the UCDSB, will be refraining from additional administrative duties. During the next two weeks, ETFO members will remain in schools and work with students during their scheduled work time. Schools will remain open, and classes will continue as scheduled for students in Kindergarten to Grade 8.

Please refer to the ETFO website (www.etfo.ca) for details regarding this job action.

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF), which represents secondary teachers and professional student service personnel within our board, will hold a one-day strike on Friday, February 28 at some school boards across the province, including the UCDSB, if progress is not made at the provincial bargaining table. There will be no classes, planned activities, co-op placements, dual-credit programs, or extracurriculars for UCDSB students in Grades 9-12 on Friday, February 28.

We will continue to communicate any additional labour-related updates or changes via email, the UCDSB website and social media.

Thank you,
